BioMed Tuition Aid Program

BioMed provides a tuition aid benefit to all eligible BioMed Clinical Department Academic Faculty with dependents attending an undergraduate program at an accredited United States college or university.

The BioMed Tuition Aid Program (TAP) provides $1000 of tuition aid each academic year to eligible academic track faculty members’ dependents. This is a benefit provided to BioMed Clinical Department Academic Faculty only.

Please contact BioMedTAP with any questions or concerns regarding your BioMedTAP benefit.

All Clinical Department Academic Faculty (Pre-Track, Clinician Scholar, Teaching Scholar, (Research), and Research Scholar Tracks) of The Warren Alpert Medical School are eligible for BioMed TAP.

Dependents must be under the age of 24 and full-time undergraduate students at an accredited institution. If your dependent withdraws from courses or drops below full-time enrollment, please notify BioMedTAP@brown.edu immediately.

Faculty can utilize the BioMed TAP benefit for each of their dependents, however, the benefit can only be used once per academic year per dependent. For example, if a dependent's guardians are both eligible Clinical Department Academic Faculty at Brown within BioMed, only one guardian may submit an application for that dependent.

Please note: This benefit is not for primary or secondary private school tuition nor is it for graduate/professional school tuition.

All accredited colleges and universities within the United States are eligible for the faculty member's BioMed TAP benefit, including community colleges.

The BioMed TAP benefit can also be used for faculty whose dependent is attending Brown University as an undergraduate.

A separate application must be submitted for each dependent. Among other details, you will need to provide the following information in the application:

  • Student ID number
  • School’s Billing Office’s mailing address (this can typically be found on the tuition statement)

After submitting the application, please email a copy of each student’s tuition bill each semester to BioMedTAP@brown.edu. TAP applications will not be processed until we receive the corresponding tuition bill.

Initial Applications:
If this is the first BioMed TAP application you will submit for your dependent, please also email a copy of their birth certificate or a formal document denoting your guardianship to BioMedTAP@brown.edu.

To ensure the timely processing of your TAP application, please adhere to the following deadlines:

  • Fall Semester - submit by October 1
  • Spring Semester - submit by March 1

Please note: Prior years’ applications will not be accepted. All requests must be submitted before July of the academic year’s summer, at the latest, to be considered. For example, all applications for the academic year 2023-2024 must be submitted by June 30, 2024.

Aid checks are sent directly to your dependents’ institution based on the information provided in their tuition statement. Our office will email you when we have processed your BioMed TAP Application.

It can take 30 days for the receiving institution to process the aid request. If you do not see the aid in your dependent’s student account within 30 days after receiving the confirmation email from our office that the request has been processed, please contact their school for a status update.

In the spirit of this benefit, the $1000 is for the entire academic year, so it is possible that the benefit will be divided in half, and distributed per semester. It is also possible the full $1000 may be provided immediately in the first semester. This depends on the processing of the financial department outside of BioMed and BMFA. If your dependent only received $500 of the benefit in the first semester and did not receive the expected second half in the second semester of the academic year, please let us know.
